On the Pont Notre Dame

Last week, on a nice ramble that touched on portions of the 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 6th and 5th arrondissements, I took this while crossing the Pont Notre Dame. In Paris you hardly need a destination. Just walk around and take it in.

    • Sadly yes. When I first saw love locks a few years ago in Germany I thought they were cool, an intriguing and romantic idea. I lost my love for them (rimshot!) when sections of railings on bridges in Paris actually failed due to the weight of all of them! So I’m not at all sad to see them go from the bridges that were covered in them. My kids, on the other hand, think I’m a cynical stick in the mud. (Which I am sometimes!)

      • I totally understand! I, too, thought they were romantic until I saw the pictures of them ballooning from the railings. When in such large quantities, it simply looks overindulgent — to be honest — a trait of tourists, not locals, denigrating the Parisian simplicity. However, seeing just a few on the bridge sparked my imagination on wonder! I’d like to think if I was there I would appreciate the scenery, but not add anything — it’s perfection! Thank you for sharing!
